They say it's the biggest one ever. Hurricane Wilma is sweeping across the Yucatan peninsula and is supposed to be heading for the Florida keys. People are starting to ask if all the natural disasters are a sign of the end times. Yes. Ever since Christ accession, humanity has been living in the end times. This is what Jesus predicted would happen as the end drew near,
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Matthew 24:6-8 (NIV)
St. Paul wrote, "We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time." Romans 8:22 (NIV) It appears to me that the groaning is getting more intense. Christ return is imminent. It may not be tomorrow or in the next month or decade or century or millennium. That doesn't change the fact that we need to be awake and conscience of what is happening around us. I believe that we're just beginning to see the early stages of creation's labor. The 100's of thousands who are been killed in the past couple of years because of earthquakes, tsunamis, famine and wars are an early indication of what is to come.
That would be a very scary and pessimistic prediction if it were not for Jesus said, "Don't be alarmed." While the birthing process is painful, we know what is being brought into existence. Just as a mother rejoices when her labor pains begin, because she know the child she has been longing for will soon be held in her arms, so we can rejoice in the midst of the pain of this world for we know where the pain is leading, "creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God" Romans 8:21 (NIV).
