For the past 24 hours Napoleon has been visiting in our community. No, not that one.
The Napoleon who's been in Sumner is from Nigeria. Napoleon Adamu, represents the Nigeria-Iowa Partnership and was in Iowa speaking to congregations.
We here in small town mid-America don't get the opportunity to encounter people from other countries very often. When someone does come to visit, it's always an eye opening experience. The things we take for granted, like clean water, electrical service, good schools for our children and not a part of many peoples experiences in other parts of the world.
My wife & I are far from wealthy by American standards, preachers & teachers aren't known for raking in the bucks. However, spending several hours with Napoleon reminded me just how well-to-do we are. And I have to admit, it gives me a twinge of guilt. I just dropped $40 at the grocery store for primarily non-essential items. That same $40 would provide a year's education for a Nigerian child.
I'll also admit, that I haven't figured out how to balance live abundantly and simply at the same time. I don't want much, I just want more.
I don't want much, I just want more.
Guilty. Me too. Way too good an observation John.
