I came across this great podcast site yesterday and just had to share it with you. I listened to several messages, but the one that really stuck out to me was based on 1 Samuel 15 where God commands Saul through Samuel to annihilate the Amlekites.
I think it is incredibly timely with the increase in terrorist activity that happened over the passed few weeks.
I remember my son asking me shortly after 9/11 if I would fly a plane into a building if God told me to. I said yes, but God would never tell me to do such a thing. In this passage from 1 Samuel 15, that's figuratively what God is telling Saul to do. Saul however only partially follows through and there's hell to pay. After listening to this podcast, I've come to see my answer to my son was wrong. I should have said no, even if I was convinced it was God who told me to do evil.
I won't give away Bitter Christian's interpretation of this passage, but I think it's a great explanation as to why one would say no to God. And more than that, a reminder for me about the importance of my relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
