Several UM bloggers, (here's Gavin's who has links to the others) are presently gathered at the Congress of Evangelism meeting in Myrtle Beach. I had wanted to attend but it just didn't fit into what I have going on. Now having read what's happening, I really wish I were there.
Thankfully, the attendees are sharing their experiences on their blogs. However, one can't virtually sit in a jacuzzi and chat with others. Well, I guess I could if I had a jacuzzi, but the church hasn't got around to installing one in the parsonage yet.
For an "immigrant" like me to be able to learn from the "natives" of the web culture, I believe is absolutely vital if I'm going to be able to minister to 21st century generations. I asked my confirmation class last night how many of them had their own cell phones. 3 of the 5 pulled theirs out of their pockets. The other two said they used their parents'. (When I was 12 years old, I thought having a walkie talkie that had a 500 yard range was cool.) What was interesting though was the fact that all but one thought that if Jesus were alive today, he won't have a cell phone. So it would seem that they still see them as a luxury item rather than a necessity.
Maybe that leads to a good question for the Methobloggers to address. Would Jesus have a blog and/or a MySpace account?
Jesus DOES have a MySpace account ... or least someone who poses as Jesus....

i think Jesus's posse would have a cell phone for him. the bigger question would be, when Jesus would blog, would he enable comments? that could get messy

As a result of the congress, I've decided to set up a MySpace account so that I can better associate with my church's youth group.
